The Museum of Moravian Slovakia
The Museum of Moravian Slovakia was opened on June 1, 1914, even though the first impulse for its establishing came from the Ethnographic Exhibition of Czechoslovakia which took place already in 1895. At first, the Museum was set up in the building of former Jesuit dormitory at the Masaryk square. However, following the First World War, the Museum was closed down and the building was utilized as barracks. The Museum had to wait until 1929, when it could finally move into new premises – the former shooting range building, purchased by the town hall from the municipal shooters’ society. This building has belonged to the museum ever since. The building was added an extension in two phases in 1936 and 1940 – 1942. The extension, designed by architect Bohuslav Fuchs, now houses exhibition premises, depositories and offices. The Museum invites its visitors to see its permanent exposition Slovácko (“Moravian Slovakia”), along with various other temporary exhibitions of different kinds (ethnographic, historical, archaeological, etc.) placed in the two other exhibition halls of the building. Besides the exhibitions, the Museum organizes regular series of lectures on homeland study, biology and travelogues, and twice a year, there are week-long demonstrations of folk crafts.

The Museum of Moravian Slovakia – the Gallery
The Museum’s Gallery is situated in a baroque building that used to serve as an armory. It was built in 1721 –1723 after plans by Jacob Albl and Leandro Anquisola. After the town fortress was made obsolete, the building served as a municipal storage, post office and hospital. In 1958, the projects of thorough reconstruction were prepared and since 1962, the building has served the public as a gallery of visual arts. In the 1990’s, two reconstructions took place: the first was finished in 1992, while the second was forced by the damage caused by the flood of 1997. The visitors are invited to see permanent exposition “The Art of Southeast Moravia”, along with temporary exhibitions of works by both Czech and foreign authors, installed in the other three halls. The Gallery has also a courtyard, where concerts and other cultural events are held.

Reduta
The recently reconstructed historic building known as Reduta (“ridotto”) now serves mostly cultural and educational purposes. Most of the events that take place here are organized by its administrator, the municipal Culture Club. Besides that, there are a few classrooms of Elementary school of Arts as well as a stylish wine restaurant in the cellar.
In the historic theater hall, mostly cultural events with chamber feel are held, such as classical music concerts, theatric performances or folklore evenings. The events of international importance that take place annually in Reduta include the Festival of Musical Instruments of Folklore Bands or the festival of films on environment protection, known as TSTTT (the abbreviation stands for the Czech for “it is your concern, too”). The small rooms serve as classrooms for language schools and the local Third Age Academy (school for seniors). The venues can be also rented out to companies and institutions for conferences, exhibitions or annual events. Reduta is an important architectonic landmark of the town and as such, it is very popular with the town visitors and guests.

Mařatice Vineyards
When visiting Uherské Hradiště, it is definitely worth it to see the vineyards in Mařatice. They are situated around a picturesque, quiet valley with a stream on the south and southwest slopes of Rochus, where one can find many historic wine cellars. The wine-growing tradition was in Uherské Hradiště established in the 12th century by the Grey Monks from the Velehrad monastery. Later on, the vineyards were owned mainly by Hradiště burghers. In the end of the 19th century, the vineyards were almost destroyed by phylloxera and as a result, wine production stagnated. The revival of wine-growing came only after 1945, when both municipal and rural vineyards were brought to life again. The Mařatice vineyards have attracted many celebrities. Among their visitors were, to name just a few, musicians Kreutzer, Ondříček, Kubelík, Novák, Suk, writers Havlíček, Heyduk, Jirásek, Čech, Herben, Durych, Machar, painters Aleš, Mánes, Slavíček, Kalivoda, Trampota, Uprka, Frolka, Lolek and many others. We must only regret that the stylishness of these parts was somewhat disrupted by some newly constructed family homes. In spite of that, the Mařatice vineyards, only a fifteen-minute walk away from the city center, are an interesting and attractive exterior. This is twice as true in autumn, when there is stum flowing in the wine cellars... You can visit several wine cellars that are open to public (U Lisu, U Marholtů - Vinný sklep 174O, U Tichých, wine restaurant U Dvořáků). Even the other private owners of wine cellars will be certainly glad to show you their cellars, some of which come from the 18th century. Many of them were reccommended to be declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture.
